August 28, 2024

MaximoWorld 2024 co-located with TRIRIGAWorld, held at the JW Marriott in Desert Ridge, Arizona, from August 5th to August 8th, was nothing short of spectacular. As industry leaders and professionals from around the globe gathered under the Arizona sun, the conference provided a unique platform to explore the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in the asset management and facilities management space. From groundbreaking announcements to deep-dive sessions and lively expo hall interactions, this year’s conference truly had it all. At Kurve Solutions, we were thrilled to attend and sponsor this event, and we’re excited to share our experience and key takeaways with you.

Asset Lifecycle Management: Bringing TRIRIGA and Maximo Together under MAS

One of the most anticipated discussions at MaximoWorld & TRIRIGAWorld 2024 was IBM’s strategy to bring TRIRIGA under the Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) System within the new Maximo Application Suite (MAS) platform. This marks a significant step forward in the evolution of asset management technology.

For those unfamiliar with the MAS platform, it represents a unified, cloud-based approach to asset management, offering enhanced flexibility, scalability, and ease of use. The inclusion of TRIRIGA under the ALM System signifies IBM’s recognition of the growing importance of facilities management as an integral part of overall asset management. By integrating TRIRIGA into the ALM System, businesses can now manage their facilities as assets within the same ecosystem, leveraging the power of MAS.

It’s important to note, however, that while TRIRIGA is now part of the ALM System, it remains technologically distinct from Maximo. This means that TRIRIGA and Maximo will continue to operate as separate systems, each with their own unique functionalities. The key benefit here is the unified licensing platform, which allows businesses to use the same tokens for accessing both TRIRIGA and Maximo applications. This move simplifies the user experience and ensures that organizations can seamlessly manage their assets and facilities without having to juggle multiple platforms.

For businesses already invested in Maximo, this integration opens new possibilities for managing facilities more effectively. It also underscores the importance of viewing facilities management as a critical component of asset management strategy. As we move forward, we expect to see more organizations adopting this holistic approach, leveraging the combined power of TRIRIGA and Maximo to optimize their operations.

AI Session Key Takeaway: The Future is Now—Get on Board with AI!

Artificial Intelligence (AI) was undoubtedly one of the hottest topics at this year’s conference, and for good reason. AI is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s here, and it’s transforming industries across the globe. We hosted two sessions on AI:

  • How to Know When Your Enterprise is Ready for AI
  • Empowering the TRIRIGA Experience with AI (co-presenting with Regeneron Pharmaceuticals)

Our AI sessions delivered a clear message: the future is now, and businesses need to get on board with AI if they haven’t already.

Sessions focused on the importance of understanding your organization’s needs and opportunities when it comes to AI. It’s no longer a question of whether AI will impact your business, but rather when and how. David Yew emphasized that businesses that act now stand to gain the most from AI. The output of AI could be in the form of a chatbot, like explored in the session with Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and their HR Onboarding Chatbot, or it could be something like our newest tool, Lease Scholar, created for automating lease abstraction. Dave challenged attendees to consider the cost of exploring AI now versus the potential cost of waiting too long. The takeaway? Delaying AI adoption could mean falling behind and missing out on significant operational efficiencies and cost savings.

The session also addressed common challenges in AI adoption, such as data quality and integration issues, and provided strategies for overcoming these obstacles. One of the key points discussed was the importance of starting small and scaling up. Organizations don’t need to overhaul their entire operations to begin leveraging AI. Instead, they can start with targeted initiatives that address specific pain points and gradually expand their AI capabilities as they gain confidence and expertise. The session left attendees with a clear understanding that AI is not just a buzzword—it’s a powerful tool that can drive real business value.

GDMS/Kurve Session Key Takeaway: Make the Actionable Obvious!

Our co-hosted session with Nathan Chute from General Dynamics Mission System (GDMS) session was another highlight of the conference, focusing on the importance of making data actionable. In today’s data-driven world, organizations have access to more information than ever before. However, the sheer volume of data can be overwhelming, and not all data is created equal. This session emphasized the need for organizations to invest in Maximo and their teams to ensure that the data needed for decision-making is clear, relevant, and actionable.

One of the key takeaways from the session was the importance of curation. Rather than trying to tackle everything at once, organizations should work with their teams to curate data for specific reporting needs. This involves identifying the most critical data points, organizing them in a meaningful way, and presenting them in a format that is easy to understand and act upon.

The session also highlighted practical examples of how organizations can make data actionable within Maximo. For instance, visualizations of available work order counts, assets with maintenance improvement procedures, and their frequency were showcased as powerful tools for decision-making. By integrating these visualizations into Start Centers, organizations can ensure that their teams have the information they need at their fingertips, enabling them to make informed decisions quickly and efficiently.

GDMS’ dedication and investment in their MainTAIN (Maximo) instances is very much apparent. It’s been a pleasure working with them on Kurve reporting and assisting in highlighting the value of MainTAIN for their business users.

Expo Hall Highlights: Friends, Fun, and New Connections

The Expo Hall at MaximoWorld & TRIRIGAWorld 2024 was a vibrant hub of activity, filled with opportunities to connect with old friends, make new ones, and explore the latest innovations in asset management and facilities management:

  • Conversations That Mattered: It was a pleasure to catch up with IBM (Stan Smith, Russell Bee, Jordan Smith, and Sam O'Neil) to discuss Operational Dashboards in MAS 9, chat with the crew at Projetech and learn more about how they’re supporting the move to MAS, and collaborate with NetResultGroup and their data cleansing tool MRO3i.
  • Kurve Shirt Winners: Congrats to Neil Summers (Electra Learning), Tracy Jefferson (EBusiness Strategies), and folks from Penske, SMART, and others who took home our coveted graphic tees.
  • Maven’s Superhero Costumes: Who could miss Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Batman, and Captain America roaming the hall?
  • Maximo King at MaxStock Music Festival: Who knew Elvis was such big fan of Maximo?! He brought the house down at this unforgettable event.
  • Corona the Donkey: Yes, you read that right! Donkeys were the talk of the town Thursday morning. Meeting Corona the Donkey was one of the many highlights!

A FAQ: There’s a Tjene booth and a Kurve tower – are you two related?

A solid question and yes, we are related! Tjene Consulting is our parent company and the team there focuses on implementation, upgrades, and support for IBM’s TRIRIGA. Over six years ago, colleagues created the Kurve reporting tool – originally made for TRIRIGA. Kurve is now part of Kurve Solutions – Tjene’s technology and software wing of the business. We have since created Kurve for Maximo and have been attending MaximoWorld & TRIRIGAWorld since its debut in Austin 2022.

So that’s why we’ve had two booths in the Expo Hall – Tjene focuses on TRIRIGA and at the Kurve tower we showcase Kurve for Maximo and TRIRIGA.

The Grand Canyon Adventure

After flying into Phoenix International Airport, a few of us decided to take advantage of our time in Arizona with a quick road trip to the Grand Canyon. We packed up in an Instagram-worthy, sage green, canvas-top Ford Bronco and hit the road, ready for an adventure. The journey didn’t disappoint.

On our trip home, we witnessed the Skeleton Fire at Agua Fria National Monument and were treated to an incredible lightning storm—safely from the comfort of our vehicle, of course. The Grand Canyon itself was, as always, breathtaking. It was the perfect way to kick off a busy week ahead and take in the natural beauty of the Arizona landscape.

A Heartfelt Thank You

Finally, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to the organizers and supporters from ReliabilityWeb who made MaximoWorld & TRIRIGAWorld 2024 a resounding success. From the smooth registration process to the well-organized sessions and events, everything was top-notch. We also want to thank everyone who visited our booth, attended our sessions, and took the time to chat with us. Your support and enthusiasm mean the world to us, and we’re already looking forward to what next year’s conference will bring!
